Private and Spacious Birthing Suites

At BSA we offer single-room maternity care so that you can labor, give birth, recover and receive post-partum care all within the privacy of your own birthing suite. Each suite includes a queen-size bed for you and your birthing partner to share, a 50" smart TV and a private bathroom with a large soaker tub and shower.

Cesarean (c-section) births take place in one of our surgical suites located just steps away from the birthing suites. After your c-section, you and your family will be taken to one of our birthing suites to spend time with your new arrival(s) and to receive post-partum care. BSA is the first hospital in Amarillo to offer c-section deliveries without the use of opioid painkillers. For an opioid-free delivery your physician will still use medication for pain management, but the side effects will be less. Opioid-free deliveries may result in decreased bloating, less constipation and a faster recovery time as compared to deliveries where opioid painkillers are used.

Newborn Nursery

After your delivery, you and your newborn(s) will share the same room to help strengthen your bond. BSA is also Amarillo's only hospital to offer Couplet Care (CC), which allows you and your newborn(s) to be cared for by the same nurses throughout your stay. We also offer an in-unit newborn nursery so that you can take a break or get some much needed undisturbed rest. The newborn nursery is conveniently located just steps away from our birthing suites and staffed with a registered nurse.

NICU

In the event that you have a premature delivery or if your newborn(s) requires special care, our Level III-Designated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is here for you and your newborn(s). Leading the way, the BSA NICU was the second NICU in Texas and the first in the Panhandle to earn the designation as a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care service provider from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

As a Level III NICU, BSA provides expert care for newborns who need highly specialized treatment, including those with a low birth weight and/or who are born as early as 22 weeks.

Our NICU includes the following:

  • 24-hour in-house coverage by specialized personnel
  • An average nurse to patient ratio of 1:2
  • Board-certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners on staff
  • NICView Cameras to allow parents real-time access to see their infant(s)
  • Parent rooms so that you can room with your baby
  • Personalized care and parent education
  • State-of-the-art technology
